Google Centuryshare Calculator

The Google Centuryshare Calculator will show you the Zeitgeist from 1950-1990 (or other decades) for a given keyphrase. It is based on the Century Mindshare.

Note that you need a Google Web API key to use the tool, since it takes 20 requests per centuryshare calculation. You can get a Google Web API license for free, all you need to do is to create a Google account.

Here are three result samples; “World War II”, “Disco” and “Chernobyl”:

The “impact” of World War II is continuously decreasing since 1950.

Disco has its popularity peak in 1978. The Disco movie “Saturday Night Fever” (with John Travolta) came out in 1977.

The No. 4 reactor of Chernobyl’s V.I. Lenin Nuclear Power Plant exploded on April 26 1986 at 1:21 A.M., releasing radioactivity many times stronger than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The peak in above figure is 1986.
