Losing Friends With Email

Bert Webb’s one-stop guide on How to Lose Friends and Alienate People With Email is worth a read. My top ten:

• Ramble when you write
• Use an inappropriate subject line
• Use all caps/ use no caps
• CC everyone you can imagine, especially their superior
• Use a lot of sarcasm and off-beat humor in your email
• Use plenty of acronyms and buzzwords
• Send repeated corrections
• Use the “Urgent” flag often
• Write your email to one person and send it to someone else
• Forward messages but don’t say why you did
