Clive Thompson last year analyzed why realistic graphics make humans look creepy; the near-real 3D won’t allow us to fill in the missing parts, like we’d do with a simplistic cartoon character like Charlie Brown. If it’s 99% realistic, we actually start to see the 1% the graphics gets wrong (and until now, they still do get it wrong). Very true. Also, simplicity aids character identification:
