CastingWords

CastingWords is a beta podcast search engine which – in true CHI/ Amazon Mechanical Turk fashion – generates its searchable content by letting people transcribe from the audio. Nothing could be more obvious, yet further away from automation.

Mario Sixtus of the German Dezentrale blog notes that in order to escape the chicken-and-egg problem (no content, no ads, no clicks, no cash, no transcription workers, no content), CastingWords wants to start out by asking the podcasters to pay. Mario adds, “please, someone offer fever medications to those guys.”
