Students for a Free Tibet Protest Outside Google

Google Cache Fair Use

Google’s cache function makes full copies of the text/ HTML of web pages, with no opt-in (there’s only an opt-out, the “robots.txt” or the meta element), and offers it back to users. While certainly useful, that one’s kinda hard to explain in terms of copyright laws. But now, this approach has been ruled fair use by a district court in Nevada. Among other reasons cited on EFF, the Google Cache “qualifies for the DMCA’s 512(b) caching ’safe harbor’ for online service providers.”
