The butler at Ask.com is gone for good. The Ask search engine is missing a good, recognizable design element now (maybe they’ll come up with a replacement).
For now, Ask force-forwards me to Ask Germany, searching German only – and it doesn’t remember my selection that I want to search in English too, or visit Ask.com USA. That’s pretty uncool...
The real problem with Ask.com however is scope. For example, for v7ndotcom elursrebmem (the SEO contest), Google returns about 3,630,000 result. Ask.com returns only 16,600. Maybe if Ask’s ranking would be highly superior to Google & Yahoo it would stand a chance, but I don’t think that’s the case.
And as for the Save Jeeves campaign, I guess that one officially ended now...
