Google Earth: Looking for Tibet

This video clip protests that Google Earth can’t find Tibet. “It’s listed as a province of China, but actually it’s just occupied by the Chinese army.”

Doodle for Google 2006

Google has started another Doodle 4 Google competition. This time people are asked to draw a Google logo that represents “what it means to be British today,” and the winning entry will be displayed on the UK homepage for a day (being seen by ~18 million people, Google says). You gotta be up to 18 years old and attending a UK school to participate.

Hmmm... what does it mean to be British today?

[Thanks Google’s World.]

Harassment Blog

Google Your Race

This guy assembled some racial prejudices using Google (he might have seen the prejudice map).

Saving Bandwidth with CSS

ESPN.com apparently saves 730 terabytes per year. How much could Google save? Even when there’s CSS around on Google.com, they’re using some of the most deprecated HTML on their web search. [Via Digg.]

Google Alerts Hebrew

Google Alerts are now available in Hebrew, Hanan Cohen reports.

Orion?

Orion is a search algorithm that’s apparently hot. So hot in fact that Google grabbed its Australian Israeli inventor Ori Allon, who’s now working at Mountain View. Previous discussion is in the forum. [Thanks Or.]
