Missy’s Blogathon

Missy (aka Maggie) emailed me this:

In 2003, my best friend David – a Web Applications Engineer at Google – was diagnosed with a life threatening kidney disorder called Alport’s Syndrome. There is currently no cure outside of transplantation.

Last year, I put my mad Google Answers Researcher skillz to use to educate my readers about kidney disease, organ donation and transplantation in David’s honor during Blogathon, an annual event during which bloggers choose a charity to support, solicit pledges, and then post a blog entry every half an hour for twenty-four hours to raise money for their chosen charity. I support the National Kidney Foundation, an organization that funds research and education programs for kidney diseases and transplants and provides counseling and outreach services for kidney patients, their families, and people interested in living donation.

This year, I’m blogging again in David’s honor to raise funds for the NKF with a cooking blog, beginning at 9AM EDT on July 29th, 2006. I would be eternally grateful if the readers of Google Blogoscoped either came by to sponsor the effort, told all their friends, or showed up to leave comments during the event to help keep me awake! All donations are sent by sponsors directly to the National Kidney Foundation. You can find more information here.
