Geoff Peters’ new Celebrity Ranker determines the sexiness of a celebrity... by calculating the celebrity name’s googleshare with the word “sexy”. (Using the Google API, Geoff gets the page count of the name + the word “sexy”, and then divides it by the page count of just the name. Note the is site ever so slightly NSFW at times.)
Geoff tells me the tool “also uses the Yahoo Image API to display images about the celebrity and gets news from the Yahoo News Search API.”
For example, Matt Damon is the 6,085th most sexy person, whereas Mena Suvari (pictured) ranks in at 1,864.
Who can find the celebrity with the highest rank?
[Thanks Geoff!]
Huh, what’s this?*
[Thanks Peter H., who told me “I crashed a Google server...”.]
*At the moment the page reads nothing but “java.lang.NullPointerException at java.util.regex.Matcher.getTextLength(Unknown Source) at java.util.regex.Matcher.reset(Unknown Source) at java.util.regex.Matcher.(Unknown Source) at java.util.regex.Pattern.matcher(Unknown Source) at com.google.searchapi.server.StaticFileFilter.doFilter(StaticFileFilter.java:65) at com.google.gse.FilteredServlet$Chain.doFilter(FilteredServlet.java:102) at com.google.gse.FilteredServlet.service(FilteredServlet.java:82) at com.google.gse.HttpConnection.runServlet(HttpConnection.java:472) at com.google.gse.HttpConnection.run(HttpConnection.java:397) at com.google.gse.DispatchQueue$WorkerThread.run(DispatchQueue.java:266)”
Google will launch a search engine for source code tonight, but journalists informed of the launch agreed to a press embargo until 9 PM.
Now that would be nice...
