" Wonderful Jaiku users,

Exciting news, Jaiku is joining Google!

While it’s too soon to comment on specific plans, we look forward to working with our new friends at Google over the coming months to expand in ways we hope you'll find interesting and useful. Our engineers are excited to be working together and enthusiastic developers lead to great innovation. We look forward to accomplishing great things together. In order to focus on innovation instead of scaling, we have decided to close new user sign-ups for now.

But fear not, all our Jaiku services will stay running the way you are used to and you will be able to invite your friends to Jaiku. We have put together a quick Q&A about the acquisition.

Jyri Engeström and Petteri Koponen, Jaiku Founders "

So that means that Evan Williams won´t return to Google with another start-up. :-)

Is this more of an acquisition to prevent other companies from buying mobile technologies?

[put at-character here]Colin, dont think so.

Jaiku was going strong, and I love it very much, and the team and owners are really good guys, that just talk to the users.
I dont see that on many sites/communities.

It's the third acquisition if you count GrandCentral, too.

Very cool – and unlike some of the other competitors has a strong location element (includes bluetooth funcationality)

"Jaiku enables you to name the neighborhood and the city/region that
you are currently in based on the cellular network tower ID."

Analyst: Now that Google has Jaiku.com, is Yahoo after Twitter?

There are many, many Jaiku.com servers, says UK-based Netcraft:
