Excellent. I hope they release the calendar this week. the Google links look cool too, i hope they'll appear on ever Google page. this will make it so easy to navigate between Google services. and it's not intrusive at all.

I assume the CL is for CaLendar. The 2 is maybe for web 2.0?

I suspect that "CL2" may actually stand for "CaLendar 2.0." Perhaps calendar 1.0 was not robust or scalable, or it was missing features to make it competitive with the upcoming Microsoft "Live" and and Yahoo (Oddpost) AJAX Calendars.

It would be extremely plausible that Calendar 1.0 was to be released long ago, (labeled BETA of course) but was delayed to make it much better. Maybe even they are going to include integration with gmail (pretty please)? Maybe they made it so much better, or they rewrote it from scratch, so that it is internally a 2.0 version (though I bet my dollars and euros that it will still debut as BETA).

This is something that does happen with software development, where versions of a product, though complete or nearly complete, are pulled back because they are deemed inadequate, often for good reason.

Just musing

It's a very good idea, but old...
Don't you see?

CL2 might just be an internal beta test name

Note the different error pages:

/cl5/about.html

/cl2/faq.html redirects to login page

The most encouraging thing about this is that it seems the calendar wasn't abandoned.

I think the reason it's CL2 might be because CL1's bubble was burst by the discovery of calendar.google.com. Just speculation.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this calendar. I've needed one for a long time already, and I hope Google delivers just what I need.

hey, i just realized that they probably do a find and replace to change codenames to real names, so they probably picked cl2 so thier find/replace doesn't hit anything else

its also chlorine gas. just a thought ;)

Well, we do know why the login page is there but we can't get to it. Right now, it's only available to trusted friends and family of google a.ka. Google Trusted Tester program. So, any google trusted tester here? Speak up now, tell us all about it.

Just reading the headline brought joy and happiness to me today =)

I was feeling a little down from all the speculations and *fake* rumors of release dates for Google Calendar, but this confirms its true! I could'nt ask for any more (right now...) from Google – hurray Google!

Now i'll be able to sleep better each night knowing that my life is alittle more organized after the soon-to-be-release of GCalendar (aka CL2).

What the hell is this? When its online what will it do? Why would I want the world to see my calander?

Confuse!

Yep, Google Links disappeared for me too today! I guess they didn't like everyone to see it yet...

Perhaps this is what we'll see on April 1st to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of Gmail.

or, if a Googler trusted tester told us about Calendar, they would become an untrusted tester :)

ahh... the perfect long awaited addition to Gmail. now if Gmail could pop3 all all my other email accounts then good-bye Outlook. ;P

lol at Caleb – Chlorine gas. :-P I hope the calendar isn't poisonous.

Seriously though, because the calendar has taken so long to be released, I've begun using 30boxes.com calendar. I bet Google's will blow this thing away though. 30boxes is AJAX and DHTML, but it's really annoying the way you scroll up and down the calendar. There are up and down buttons instead of true scrolling. I hope CL2 isn't like that.

Jamie [PersonRank 0]

Seems to me that CL2 may just refer to the idea that Google's Calendar is like the 2.0 version of calendaring. In other words, it may aim to say that their calendar is a version ahead of everyone else's.

I no lie i relay do here i copy paste it

Hey i know what gmail needs
- a Calender
- the ability to change the the background color u know the blue gets boring
- a few smiley faces like this one

what i'd prefer is if google just purchased http://www.30boxes.com – i think they're doing an awesome job of "web 2.0" features (rss, integration with outlook/ical/etc, flickr/myspace/etc integration) combined with an easy to use and attractive web calendar.

Ted [PersonRank 0]

i use hipcal and like it. unlike 30boxes, hipcal integrates "to-do" lists within their interface which is crucial for me. they (like all the ajaxy calendars on the internet that i've run across) seem almost ready to be just right but not quite. for example, ical export is available with hipcal but tasks for some reason don't export. 30boxes doesn't integrate to-dos. remember the milk doesn't integrate a calendar. they all need to get together and work it out.

or maybe google will do us all a favor and just release their damn calendar already.

Gordo [PersonRank 1]

"30boxes doesn't integrate to-dos."

They will. I am guessing it won't be too far out, as I think it has been placed pretty close to the top of their own to-do list.

Ted [PersonRank 0]

Gordo mentioned that 30boxes will integrate to-dos. Part of the problem with these calendar sites (including my favorite hipcal) is that they promise to do a lot but take a long time to deliver. hipcal's color category customization feature has been down for weeks and hipcal's ical export is pretty weak. the guys behind hipcal are mostly all students. voo2do guy started his calendar up while in school or just out of it. they are very bright and very busy and aren't especially fast at making improvements. Google would have a vested interest in creating a calendar product that will help it make money.

This is long overdue and an opportunity for Google to really take the lead. A great calendar is vital in todays busy world and it was the only thing missing from Gmail. Can't wait to see it. Would be great if they can incorporate something very unique with it as well...hmmm.

I stumbled upon http://www.zimbra.com, which offers an outlook type of email/calendar system. I really don't like the way it looks, but it offers similar features to Gmail (conversation view, snippets, etc) as well as calendar features that might be helpful, but hopefully will run better with a Google-quality calendar.

It's a photoshopped version of Gmail with a Yahoo Calendar in the page

definately photoshopped. the typeface within the calender matches Yahoo 100%. great idea, tho.

And it doesn't explain that URL for CL2.

30boxes.com is very good. And I expect they are doing very well (just at the moment) due to all the buzz about Googles Calendar product. Obviously the other side of the coin is that they will (or may) lose a load of users when Google CL2 (or whatever they call it) goes lives.

I though have become quite attached to 30boxes.com its one box addition of events is brilliant. I would love to see a Google product better than 30boxes but I doubt it will be.

Like someone said above: if they buy 30boxes and put it in Gmail that would be perfect.
