When you rollover a contact their name pops up in an info box, just like google chat (gmail).

Add & View all contacts are now buttons.

Multiple chat appearances in settings. This changes the way the conversations look, they remind me of forums. Of course standard is still available. Each theme has 2 versions; with or without display picture.

5) Display alerts – now have a close button, as well as right-click

6) Links in chats now have no underline until rollovered.

7) When a contact changes status whilst in a conversation the new status is displayed.

Changing the apparence doesn't work for me :(I click on any theme and nothing happens.

Seems like user themes are going to be supported too, go to your Windows profile directory (with %userprofile%) and then Local ConfigurationApplication DataGoogleGoogle Talkthemes (maybe the names of the directories are wrong because I have winXP in spanish) and you will see a user/ directory with a readme file that says:

User-installed themes should be placed here.
The directory will be removed if Talk is uninstalled, but _not_ when Talk is updated.

Directories:

chat/ This directory is scanned for chat themes.

Mine installed automatically last night. I noticed the Talk icon wasn't in the tray, but then it reappared and I opened it and it was like this..

it was packaged at approx 5.30am US time on Thrusday – 30th march... ;-) SpreadGoogleTalk released the link just a few hours ago.. as you could see its meant to be a testing version .. pre-release is right.

For me is the best improvement in adding new contacts. Before that was quite weird. Now it can even recognize people with other Jabber account.

Can you now call people without opening an IM window first? From the look of the contact list clicking on those phones might do it.

96x96? What the hell is that? Can't we decide on a world standard for avatar size? One thing wants 50x50, another wants 100x100, 30x30, 70x70.. apparantly rounded numbers aren't good anymore with 96.

Joey: You can use avatar in any size, I´ve tried it.

I installed it but i didn't get any images for msn-contacts (that might not be supported in the transport) and all the names changed into the e-mail adresses. I re-installed the normal version of google talk.

Huh? You can't talk to MSN contacts on Google Talk can you?

I added you to the credit list of my post. I didn't get mail from you but saw you and Digg, and you were definitely the first place I saw the screenshots... only at that time I thought it was April Fool's. Later that day Angelo Embuldeniya emailed a setup URL to me and I realized Google Talk avatars are real. I think you didn't have the setup URL in your post at the time, and only included it later on an update?

I found a new service which has a plugin to google-talk with the most amazing 3D talking avatars. works amazing with Gtalk.
