This is interesting space to watch as the community can literally tap onto agends and information in a format which is micro (?) for a number of tags...

Holiday calendars seem to be pre-rigged into the application

The world cup one looks good. I Like the way it adjusts the time to your own timezone.

btw....why do you say "add them to your Google Calendar by going to Settings -> Other Calendars: Add Calendar -> Public Calendar Address."

Its much easier to add them by simply copying and pasting the URL into the "search public calendar" textbox at the bottom of the Calendars sidebar. Then press Enter.

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

That is indeed much easier. Thanks Utills, I changed the post intro!

I have created a (slightly) better calendar (IMO) than the US Holidays calendar.

XML: www.google.com/calendar/feeds/ufen3qmq91dtqdo
prar8r28r40[put at-character here]group.calendar.google.com/public/basic
iCal: www.google.com/calendar/ical/ufen3qmq91dtqd
oprar8r28r40[put at-character here]group.calendar.google.com/public/basic

Mine includes a few more holidays and considerably more religious/ethnic ones

Here's the China holidays calendar:

Many holiday calendars can be accessed from right within Google – there's a tab called "Holiday Calendars" when you click the [+] on "Other calendars".

Almost the same as one you posted, but this F1 calendar's a little better in that it properly posts the times of the events, so you can work your busy Sunday schedule around them properly :)

so many missing features: I wish I could click on these links and have them take me to my Google Calendar. I really don't see the point in downloading the ics file. I just want the address. Please don't give a link to the calendar. Give the address.

What I don't understand is why google didn't create a way to add calendars with a simple url. Such a link could work just like the links to reader and google personalized, so you can see the agenda even if you don't have a google-account :P.

Bobby [PersonRank 0]

that was quick. good job as always, thanks!

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

Hopefully Google will release:
- an "add this calendar" button/ URL
- a widget to include small calendars in blogs
- a calendar module for the Personalized Homepage
- the ability to subscribe to an RSS feed which will list dates in chronological agenda order (what's next will be displayed first – right now they seem to sort the Atom feed in order of when the event was added)
- a "popular calendars" or "editor's picks" of calendars, not just the search functionality

take [PersonRank 1]

okay, hiroshima, I concede my point, "Copy link location" works pretty easily.

"Find Calendar Link" -> "Right click" -> "Copy link location"
"Go to your google calendar" -> "Manage Calendars" -> "Add Calendar" -> "Public Calendar Address" -> "Right Click the box" -> "Paste" -> "Add".

Can't wait for the Google Calendar API.

Google calendar is nice... I was using Google Calendar then saw some comments for 30boxes.com. 30boxes is a great product and lets you import tv shows from evoketv.com. I hope google will allow you to add tv show listings one day.

Chris [PersonRank 0]

Google can list evoketv.com listings. Just use the "subscribe to ical feed" option in evokeTV rather than the RSS feed. It works just like the calendars listed above. I have it set up on my Google Calendar and it is working nicely.

you said:

"To add any of the following calendars to Google Calendar, copy the URL and paste it into the Search public calendars box in your sidebar"

But nothing comes up that way usually. you must have meant to say: paste that URL into the "public calendar address" box. I'm not sure what sidebar you're refferring to though.

or [PersonRank 10]

Yes, the sidebar he is talking about is under "calendars". At the bottom you will see a search box, you can paste the url there and press enter – the calendar will be immediately added.

I tried "

Didn't work for me. I copied the address from the "subscribe to ical feed" and pasted it into the box but it doesn't show anything.

I have created a calendar for the rest of the season (05/06) for the English Premiership. I'm not sure how long it takes for Google to crawl public calendars within Google Calendar so I'll link the iCal and XML links here.

Following up, in case anyone is reading. You can now easily publish a "one click add Google Calendar" URL.

Just find the feed address of your calendar (Settings->Calendars->Calendar name) and add it to the following URL:

http://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=

e.g., to publish a link to the Search Events calendar, you could publish this URL behind a "remind me with Google Calendar" button:

http://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fcalendar%2Ffeeds%2Fcmhmht8j8j3rp7qkon3q7080t8%40group.calendar.google.com%2Fpublic%2Fbasic

Note that the feed URL needs to be URLEncoded, so we've provided a handy encoder for you here at the bottom of the page http://www.google.com/googlecalendar/event_publisher_guide.html

A calendar detailing new music releases would be ideal ;)

I know there are a bunch of possible sources, particularly iTunes, and Allmusic.com....but to combine them into Google Calendar would be ideal. Though I haven't tried out these calendars yet,

Tried to access a few of the listed calendars Monday night: "Sorry, Google calendar is not available. Try again in a few minutes.".

I know it's still "beta", but for Google you expect a little better availability.
Oh well.

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

Yes, I check these comments :)
I've been having the same problems with Google Calendar but was hoping they get fixed by Google soon. As alternative, if you can connect to Calendar you can copy and paste the "cid" parameter of the URLs as provided in my post into the Calendar "Search public calendars" box and hit return.
