Isn't every site one click away, unless the site is not in google's index? Hard to imagine someone who reads this site would not have their site in the index!

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

Ted so how are you gonna manage to get to your site in accordance with the rules? Please describe... remember, no typing in the search box...

Ryan Govostes [PersonRank 1]

I'm not sure how this works. Doesn't this mean we have to go through the Google Blog or something?

http://rgov.org/

There, now you can get it from:

Start: Google.com
1: About Google
2: Google Blog
3: Philipp Lenssen's Google Blogoscoped
4: Comments (for How Many Clicks From Google.com?)
5: http://rgov.org/

That's 5 clicks. I win :-D

I am zero clicks away (with a keyboard)... Ctrl+L,www.google.com,Enter,Ctrl+Tab,Tabx10,matt thompson,Tabx33,Enter,Ctrl+Tab

Now to figure out how to get to my site without one...

That's 4, I've got you beat :)

The rules say... "you are not allowed to type anything (or use other devices that let you input text unless the website itself provides them)" ... so strictly through hard-coded links.

I think Phillip has us both beat – took 3 links to get to his site (see my first post).

I tie with Phillip at 3 clicks. About Google -> Google Blog -> Fury.com

Then again, it comes down to what you define as 'your site'. If I work on the Google home page, is my score 0?

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

Ryan:

But you typed your URL here... I think that doesn't count :)

If you're in the team actively working on the Google homepage I'd say you "own" it... by that definition I think you own at least Gmail :)

I'm not even going to post how many clicks it takes for me.... :-(

Fair enough, then I'm 2: Google.com -> more -> Gmail

Now if Gmail were made a tab I'd be 1. ;-)

This site used to be like 8 on a search for "google"

if this were still the case one could just drag the "Google" from the bottom into the search box then click that result.

Also one could drag letters around and spell out your site name.

This is probably cheating though.

/pd [PersonRank 10]

hey Jen , dont you think that you compress that to about 3 cliks ?

Which site? I have so many, but all could be found by getting to Nathan's InsideGoogle and then branching out from there. So I'd say it's about 4, 5, or 6 depending on which of my sites I want to get to.

I don't suppose you count answers of mine at Google Answers? Even then, I have to click through to Google UK before I can click to Google Answers. The alternative is:

1. more
2. Directory
3. Computers
4. Programming
5. Languages
6. Eiffel
7. Object-Oriented language: Eiffel
8. Eiffel Software Directory (one of my sites)

Roger Browne [PersonRank 10]

Hang on, I can improve on my previous score by inserting a convenient link here:

http://roger-browne.com

Now it drops from 8 clicks to 6:

1. About Google
2. Google Blog
3. Philipp Lenssen's Google Blogoscoped
4. Forum
5. How Many Clicks From Google.com?
6. The link above.

Talk about a Heisenclick!

I can do in 11 clicks considering that i have to switch language / country i think its good enough :)

I wonder how many clicks it would be if you didn't go through the google blog or any blog site.

To get to one of my sites it took about 8 from the more, directory.....

I'm now on a quest to figure out if it's even possible to get to my site without going through the Directory. (I probably wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't read it above, so it feels like cheating).

Hi Phillip,

First time to your blog. I was bit confused after reading this post. Its like going to my page without keyboard from google.com and signing into any google service right?

my blog is http://hetwaghela.blogspot.com, let see how much time it takes to reach me there. It seems miles away :)

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

Four on a good day * – e.g.:

0. Google – http://www.google.com
1. About Google – http://www.google.com/intl/en/about.html
2. Google Blog – http://googleblog.blogspot.com
3. Google Blogoscoped – http://blogoscoped.com
4. Tony Ruscoe's Blog – http://ruscoe.net/blog

* This currently relies on the "Google Video Ads Official" post being on the front page of this blog and also assumes you have a scroll wheel on your mouse to scroll down to it!

Otherwise... it's probably a six (continued from above):

4. Google Blogoscoped Archive – http://blogoscoped.com/calendar
5. Any number of posts with a "Thanks" to me! ;-)
6. Tony Ruscoe's Blog – http://ruscoe.net/blog

Thanks for the entry. It finally made me realize that I haven't done enough to make myself known in the net. I needed 10 clicks to get to my home adress – but not to my website, mind you. I just did the first step to changing that now and hopefully I will be able to find my way to my site much faster soon.

1. Click on "Groups" on the Google homepage
2. Click "Browse group categories..." in the "Find a group" box on the Google Groups homepage
3. Click the category "Arts and Entertainment"
4. Click on the language "Norwegian – Norwegian (Bokmål)"
5. Click the link to the group called "Runaround Film" (number four in the list)
6. Click the link to "http://www.runaroundfilm.no/"

Congratulations, you're there. In six clicks. Welcome to my Norwegian film production company.

John-Erling Holmenes Fredriksen [PersonRank 1]

that should be www.runaroundfilm.no, the link autoformatting messed that last url up a bit.

For me it is the same as Tony outlined except you have to be more careful in choosing the post to make sure you get one with a link to me on it.

4 if I get very lucky.

1. Froogle
2. "A few of the items recently found on Froogle" – callaway vft irons
3. Stores: Golfballs.com
4. click any of the products

Otherwise I'm probably pretty much out of luck.

Now that's creative :)
I suppose by dragging individual letters you could spell something that takes you to almost any page... OK, let's call this cheating :)
