When will Gmail hit 3GB?Mambo | Tuesday, August 22, 2006 18 years ago • 3,846 views |
Although we don't really NEED 3GB of storage, it would look good on the books.
Does anyone know, based on previous incline in data storage, when it will approximately become available to us? |

0.33 MB per day 244MB/0.33 MB per day=739 days today+739 days=around 15 sept. 2008 |

Well done on the maths.
That's kind of lame... but like i said, we dont need it.
Gdrive will be ruling the world by then, anyway, so Gmail storage won't count. |

Sorry, the answer is Aug 30 2008. |

i think they should do smth like boost the user with 100 MB when he needs it. This wouldn't yet allow him to upload all his moviez and garbage stuff, and still would keep all users from worrying about their inboxes space. Anyways, we still have the 100 invitations :) , so we can calm down for a bit with our ~276 GB inboxes.. |

If this Gmail counter* is accurate, Gmail will hit 3 GB (3072 MB) on April 12th, 2009 at 02:54:51

I computed 3GB = 3000MB, which is not accurate. 0,33 MB per day is also an approximation
Gmail uses this data now: [ 1149145200000, 2730 MB], [ 1167638400000, 2800 MB]
the big number is the JavaScript representation: June 1 -> 2730 MB January 1 2007 -> 2800 MB

Maybe they'll do something special on April 1st ? |

3GB = 3000MB, let´s flame. :-)
I hope they will be quicker, I´m spending my space faster than 100 MB/year. |

When will there be 200 GB? December 2nd, 3657 1:51:25 |
Niraj Sanghvi | 18 years ago # |
jilm, As some have described in this forum in the past, you can surpass 100% of your space, and the counter will say something like "You are using 119% of your space."
Not sure if this is true as I am way below the limit. |

Yes Niraj, I saw this myself. Of course, I don't know if Google fixed this in the meantime (though it's more of a feature than a bug). |

Grr, why are they slowing it down? Soon after they added "infinite storage", it was going up like 2.5-3 megs a day, IIRC.
I thought it would reach 3 (or perhaps 4) GB on the 2 year anniversary, but I guess not. |

Hiya peeps!
I can nw reveal tht the definate date Gmail will hit 3GB is:
3rd September 2008 @ 22:08:34 GMT |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
(3*1024-2800)/(70/(1167638400 – 1149145200)) + 1167638400 = 1239497691.4
At the rate of ~3.78517509 * 10^-6 MB/s, Gmail will hit 3 GB by Sun, 12 Apr 2009 00:54:51.40 GMT. |

2758 MB should be instead of 2800 |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
No, 2800 is right. Here's the procedure: (70/(1167638400 – 1149145200)), get the number of MB that increase per second. 70 is from 2800-2730, which is the totally number of MB that increase during the 1149145200 to 1167638400 period. (3*1024-2800), get the number of MB that need to be increase to 3GB.
(3*1024-2800)/(70/(1167638400 – 1149145200)) =272/~0.000003785 =1239497691.4
1239497691.4, the number of seconds from 1167638400 to the time that we get 3 GB. Then add 1167638400 to time we really get the 3 GB, so it is 1239497691.4, which will be the time I posted above. |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
Oops, something wrong, 272/~0.000003785 should be 71859291.4, and >>272/~0.000003785 the number of seconds from 1167638400 to the time that we get 3 GB. ... |
