I can't believe GB is slipping so badly. This news should have been on this blog a week or so ago..

Come on GB, keep up the good work..

He could have saved himself some time by posting his idea in these forums.

Would this have worked for any other company the size of Google?

Aaron's idea is related to gaming. That's all that I will share. Google will not be biting because he has no cred as a real developer.

Do you need to be a "real developer" in order to have good ideas though?

Good ideas are cheap – it's knowing how / being able to implement them that's tough.

Ask an author how many people come up and tell them they've 'got a great idea for a book!'. To stretch metaphor further, this is kind of like an unpublished author getting an audience at Harper Collins to present a 'great idea for a book' – without having written anything yet.

Not that I'm criticizing Aaron, hell maybe he has the knowledge and skill to turn his idea in to reality. If his idea is good, and he's got the skill, Google might be interested when he's shown he can do something about it.

I'm glad that he got a chance to talk to some people at Google pretty quickly.

He modified one of his blog posts... here's the original:

< < E-mails Are Keeping Me Awake! – 02/16/2007 – 5:25 AM:

I've been unable to sleep most of the night because my brain has been very active. Mainly, I've been thinking about the e-mails that people have been sending, until finally I got back up off the couch at 2:30 a.m. or so to film something and post it. Which, of course, means I got back to bed at around 4:00 a.m. It strikes me that there's something pretty amazing in these e-mails, and I couldn't sleep until I had shared some of them. I know you might be more interested in details about Google, but this is worth your time too. This video might not be as well cut as the others, but it's more significant. Don't believe me? Watch the video. You'll agree.

Oh, and before I give you the video, here's an interesting story for you. I woke up to a fellow that wrote this:

"Due to my curiosity about your business idea, I did a bit of hunting and found the page that has your presentation available to download. I must say that, Sir, you are brilliant. this is one of the most astounding ideas that I have heard of. I wish you all the luck that you can have and I eagerly await to see what happens with your talks to google!"

So yeah, while you're not allowed to go poking around looking for these files (I've pulled them anyway – David seemed to imply they would not be needed) , it was a fairly amusing e-mail. I'd been watching the stats and noticed the one visitor not from Google, but hadn't thought anything of it. He seemed to think it was a good idea, at least. Maybe I'm not just insane after all. :) Anyway, video...

A BOLDED NOTE: Oh, for the love of... grr. This is why you don't do things at three in the morning. There are spelling errors in the video. Photoshop slides + no spell check + no sleep = spalling publems. And since it would take me an hour or two to fix, re-upload, and embed again... Well... it gets to stay like that for a little while. Sorry about that. :) Nothing I write in that video is the star of the show anyway; overlook my flub and pay attention to what is said. Please. > >

< < It's likely that his idea is... "a powerful tool for writers. By analyzing published novels and breaking them down into detailed statistics, then graphing those statistics scene-by-scene, we allow authors to better understand their craft in a way never before possible. You already know to start your book with a high interest scene, but do you know what to do with the scenes after that?" > >
