Philipp, Google has done plenty of logos for countries around the world. They've done things for:

Japan
France
America
Ireland
Korea
Switzerland
Canada
India
China
England

That's from reviewing the list here:
http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html

So i don't get saying they should be "brave" in doing this. They already are. Sure, add Turkey to the list as well.

Also, I'm fairly sure that not on the list are special logos Google does in particular country editions (so Google UK might have more unusual logos for the UK than Google.com)

Danny, I know Google shows national holiday logos in other countries (we had them in Germany too). The point I was trying to make is easy to misunderstand, so let me try to explain better: if Google is really brave, then they'd show a national holiday logo for a specific country around the whole world for that day. E.g. I would get the US July 4th logo here in Germany, and reversely, the US would get to see a China holiday. That's what I meant when I said there'd be the bonus of learning something about other cultures along the way.

yes – so I'm clear. I think Google has indeed shown on Google.com, to anyone around the world, some country specific logos.

in addition to this, i think they also sometimes show specific logos on specific country.

I've never seen a Portuguese google logo either on .com or .pt domain.
I would really like to see some of our holidays showing up there.

Yeah, at least Google could show it to those users who switch away from their country domain to stick to Google.com.

Googlebizelogoyapsana.com is evolving to be a national campaign. Hundreds of web site support the project, designers has sent hundreds of Google TR logos, mass media supports it.

It reached to unbelievably scope. And in fact, it is also a million dollar PR campaign for Google

I believe Google will response this demand and design logo for us. And, our ultimate goal is to see google is using one of these logos (Customer designed Logo)

This is silly. People give too much importance to a tiny logo.

I this you dont see, the big idea. In this case "usual people challenging a web giant". Maybe Google (the first time in the world) will use user designed logos. This'd be a milestone on consumer power and participation trends.

Others made similar petitions:

What's next? Would the Nazi's like to have a google logo too?
I mean one minute the Turks block Youtube
then they demand that google make a picture for them.

I mean come on Turkyness people the web is free, stop being so stupid. It's like saying Google please pimp my myspace, or something... just dumb. If you want a logo you should make it your self and then ask google to put it up for you.

I think they are a bunch of noobs(not the people of Turkey just there gov).

Yes, it would certainly set a precedent... not sure if it's the kind of precedent Google *wants* to set though! While a happy end to the Google Turkey logo story would improve Google's image (in Turkey, at least), it might also result in even more petitions that keep Google support busy...

I don't think Google will be so careless to give in here. So far they've been very consistent in sticking to principles, and the principle is that changing Google logo is reserved for things that mean something to <em>Googlers</em>, not billions of people around the world.

In fact, it seems to me that Turkish people are diminishing their chances by this act – because now, even if Google (independently) wanted to show some Turkey-related logo, they probably would still not do it, because many people would think such petitions are effective, which would be a bad thing for Google.

I think we should allow for special logos, but only to countries that dont whine about YouTube videos.

But then there'll be a point when there are so many holidays that the Google logo is constantly (well, almost) in a state of holiday-ness, and the four-colored one would be kind of rare to see.

I think google should hire a few artists, and have them turn out a new logo every day. Kind of like the "this day in history" deal. Every day, the google logo will pay tribute to some historic event that happened on that day.

While the idea seemed laudable and my first reaction was "YES! Let's do this", on second thought I'm slowly backing away from it. There might be a few too many snake pits for Google. A bright day in history for one nation might be just a bit too painful for another. Example: would the same Turkish people appreciate it if Google showed them a special logo to commemorate the Greek Independence day? How would a Cuba or North Korea special logo be received in the US? Google should do well to steer clear of such prickly issues.

Ionut, you tend to be hypercritical. It's good for inciting discussions but bad for their quality.
When an American company decides to conqer the world it either can do it by flattering the conquered peoples or by letting them know that they are inferior to American Culture. If Google can dump democracy to become popular in China, it can change their "traditions" for Turkey.

Anyone can make their own search page (not the serp page) with their logo.
They may not be able to force this page onto other people.

If you create an appropriate account you can also customize the serp pages.

You mean Co-op/Adsense for search.

Since when we rely a commercial multibillion giant company to know our national holidays. This is height of commercialism. Who cares if Google logo changes. This is pure BS.

Perhaps Google could do a logo on the Armenian genocide that Turkey refuses to acknowledge occurred?

I thought Google has a few artists churning these doodles out... rumor has it.

Surely someone could come up with a Greasemonkey script so people could choose to display all the logos from around the world, as you suggest, Philipp. It could pull from google.com/holidaylogos.html or from a public repository (maybe a Flickr photoset) of user-contributed logos. (If the latter, it assumes Google is OK with the riffs on their intellectual property, of course.)

Good news (for some of us indeed) Google Turkey has made a special doodle and broadcasted in google.com.tr The doodle is about 23th April THE ‘international childrens festival ‘ which is both celebrated by Turkish and Worlds youngsters. You can see the Google's Doodle from here googlebizelogoyapsana.com

A detailed information about the campaign

Today is celebrated as “National Sovereignty and Children’s Day” in Turkey. Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, devoted this day (in 1920) on which the Turkish Parliament was opened to the children of the world. In celebration of this day, Google is displaying a special doodle on the Turkish domain (http://www.google.com.tr). This was a result of an initiative called GoogleBizeLogoYapsana which translates in to “Google Design a Doodle for us”. The initiative’s original plan was to attract Google’s attention with doodle’s designed by the Turkish community and have one displayed on the Google homepage. Although, this just happened for the Google TR domain and doodle design is not one submitted by the community it can still be seen as a success.
