1 – Yahoo 2 – Google 3 – Slashdot 4 – Metafilter (?) 5 – ? 6 – Digg 7 – ? 8 – ? 9 – Google Blogoscoped 10 – Boing Boing
I think it's probably important that your site looks well unpixelized... |
I think that nr. 4 is msn.com
/Thomas |
Greg, you're right on all accounts. Except 4, which Thomas got right. |
The only one I easily noticed was Google. All the other ones, except for yours, looked like a random mess and would have taken too long to try to figure out. |
1 – Yahoo 2 – Google 3 – Slashdot 9 – Google Blogoscoped |
I wrote the above comment without looking at the other comments, btw. |
Kenneth, 7 is CNN, right, and BrianS, indeed 8 is Google News. 5 is not a "mainstream" site, by the way. |
Well, I went 2 for 10. 2 – Google 3 – Slashdot |
I got Google immediately. MSN next, then Google Blogoscoped because I was looking at it. Yahoo and Slashdot I had to visit to make sure I got them right. |
I think its time for a hint on #5. I've tried technorati, memeorandum, del.icio.us, etc and I can't put my finger on it. Does it have to do with blogging? News? Mail? search? |
#5 just looks like one of those Blogger templates, which I'm sure it's not. :) |
Let me try without looking the answers above...
1 – yahoo 2 – google 3 – slashdot 4 – ? 5 – waxy 6 -? 7 -cnn (?) 8 – 9 – GB 10 -boingboing |
There you go... I think those have been all the answers. Number 5 was Waxy.org/links.
I think blurring (possibly with Gaussian filter) is also good if you want to check an icon for its usability. |
i got 123689&10 correct. This is a great exercise in a sites "rememborability". I got slashdot most easily followed by google then blogoscoepd. Slashdot and blogoscoped were both ided by color easily; google too, in a sense--white. Digg has its yellow pads, google news' maroon and column structure. Blurring like this would also show how identifiable a page is from thumbnail previews or at a distance. Great post! |
I'm betting that if you applied the same filter to cnet.com it would be readily identifiable.
Very cool! |
I'm gonna guess first, then go back through the comments and see what others guessed. ok? ok.
1. Beats me. 2. Google 3. Slashdot 4. Uh... 5. NNNNNNnnnope... 6. Um.... 7. CNN! 8. Google News. 9. Google Blogoscoped. 10. boingboing
|
Looks like they had all been guessed correctly. Cool idea anyway! |
