I haven't noticed this before but "more" in Google Maps now includes a "video" option. |
Yeah, totally a new feature in Maps. |
The videos that were included in the "exploring location" feature were very poor and so were many user-generated maps. Panoramio's layer is the most valuable, probably because the images are hand-picked and there are strict rules: http://www.panoramio.com/help/#GE_2 .
There are many other layers in the mapplets directory (http://maps.google.com/gadgets/directory?synd=mpl&pid=mpl&features=sharedmap,geofeed&hl=en) and the best ones will be added to the main interface. |
If some of users have seen this earlier than 16th Dec please leave a reply post. |
I remember seeing this over a month ago when looking at the map for Linköping. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=link%C3%B6ping&sll=59.65468,12.591177&sspn=1.926212,3.004761&g=Arvika,+Sweden&ie=UTF8&ll=58.40106,15.578098&spn=0.003901,0.005869&t=h&z=17&lci=lmc:youtube
Except, I don't remember there being a "more menu" :-/
I.e. there were videos pooping up in the map by themselves. |
I think Google trialled this feature with You Tube videos appearing as an option in the left sidebar – just as you still get the 'Photos' heading and a few thumbnails appearing.
Before the thumbnails on the map had the YouTube logo on top (I think). I'm fairly certain that it was only today that videos appeared under the 'More' button.
I have to agree with Ionut that the videos are often very poor – except for this one by me ;)

I've been seeing those for over a week now...
I found some videos of competitions over at the University of Central Florida XD |
Later you might get an option to show blog posts that are geo-tagged (via the latest Blogger in Draft feature). |
I didn't see this yesterday. I'm sure I checked the "more" option yesterday. |
The mapplet of youtube videos is not accurate in geotagging. Videomap has 6000 and plus videos on exact geographic location.
