I guess the reason is that the length of a country is (more) disputable. |
I can see an Ask.com AdWords on that search which shows Ask handing out a better answer:

Someone at Google is obviously following this blog. "Length of the UK" doesn't work any more, but "Length of the US", as rax suggested, still does. |
