Increased Google Index Size?

Andrew Hitchcock has the Google Page Count module on his personalized homepage and noticed the number dramatically increased. You can check yourself by searching for [* *] (two wildcards); the number I can see at this moment is 25,270,000,000. A few months ago, the page count for this search was around 10 billion.
