Google Archive Search?

Garett Rogers discovered a couple of newly registered Google-domains, like Google-Archive.com or ArchiveSearchGoogle.com, which may hint at a Google “Wayback” machine in the style of Archive.org. Right now, Google only allows you to go back to its currently indexed version of a page via their cache feature (for web pages which allow this, anyway). It would be neat indeed to go back to older versions, or compare different versions visually. Theoretically, Google might have stored older versions of web pages for many years now... and the Wayback machine could use some competition (’cause often, their cached pages are broken).

Garett adds, “If I am on the wrong track with the web archive, another possibility for a service named ’Google Archive Search’ would be one where you could search for historic articles from things like newspapers and magazines.”

On a related note, other recently registered Google domains are Index-Bench.com and BenchIndex.com, as ResourceShelf points out.

The discussion started in the forum.
