Google Associate Product Manager Aneto Okonkwo announced the recipients of the United Negro College Fund scholarship program established with Google. He says he’s excited, adding that ...
The number of African-Americans in the field of engineering is critically low: according to the National Science Foundation, as recently as 2003, African-Americans accounted for less than four percent of the total scientific and engineering workforce. When I was an undergrad, I applied for scholarships similar to the UNCF/Google Scholarship Program; those few opportunities were instrumental in my career development.
The 8 African-American students will be invited to the Google headquarters and receive a $5,000 scholarship each. Other Google scholarship programs are the Google Hispanic College Fund Scholarship, and for women, the Google Global Community Scholarship and the Google Anita Borg Scholarship.
