*My thoughts? Digg in their FAQ should mention that they’ve got moderators. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, but it’s a frequent issue. At this time, the only appearance of the word “moderation” in their FAQ stresses that the community moderates.
Also, the Digg team might think about making moderation more transparent. People surely want to know next time something is instantly promoted to the frontpage (it happened a long time ago, but might happen again, Kevin Rose – well, or someone named “kevinrose” on Digg – said). People also might want to know when something is changed – if that happens – or the exact rules for story removals (and account removals, for that matter). Kevin’s explanation that the Digg team moderates when “something is wrong” without further explanation except “bad link etc.” leaves a lot to be clarified.
At the moment, even a simple mention of the fact that Digg editors moderate receives a “warning” sign from the community for potentially inaccurate content – I believe this is a sign not only that Digg is often immune to Digg criticism (nothing the Digg team is directly responsible for), but also, that many perceive Digg to be moderation-free (something the Digg team is partly responsible for, simply because they don’t mention editor moderation on their help pages).
